To what degree do you feel ambidexterity influences the mind?

I consider my self this way. I made a conscience effort as a child to use both hands. I was righty naturally but would switch hands for some occasions.
I think sports induces this effort naturally.
Baseball we catch w/ one hand and throw w/ the other. I could bat f/ either side of the plate. A hockey goalie also uses both hands in a similar fashion.
I think I developed both sides of my brain by “going both ways”. What do you think?
Baw- Exactly … I shoot guns or bow and arrow left handed because I wink w/ my right eye.
janet- so glad you clarified the hugging backwards … initially I detected one blindly back stepping into this procedure.

I am a lefty and do feel that I am better using my right hand than a right-handed person is in using their left hand. There are many appliances that are for right-handed people and you don’t realize this unless you are left-handed.

For instance, the old phones with the handset attached by a cord. The cord was on the left. So, a lefty is holding the phone in their left hand and can’t write a message. If you switch the phone to your right hand, the cord is going right across where you’d want to be writing. I love cordless phones for that reason. And, sometime try punching in the buttons for a phone call with your left hand — that’s how awkward I feel using my right hand.

Oh, we just bought an espresso machine. The little coffee pot that the espresso goes into has a spout on the side, so you hold that in your right hand and pour the espresso into your cup. Well, when I have that in my left hand, the spout is on the left side and I can’t pour it!

On a microwave, the buttons to push are on the right. On a toaster, same thing.

And the funniest thing is that I hug backwards! People will put out their right arm to start a hug and I put out my left and our arms are bumping. That used to cause a little embarrassment at times, but I finally started extending my right arm, but it still feels awkward to me.

Fun question — you should never have let me get started. I could go on and on . . . have a star!
